Croatia expands elderly care with new home in Split and 10‑year anniversary in Konavle

The Dom za starije Konavle care home celebrated its 10th anniversary, reporting full occupancy of its 82‑person capacity and a waiting list of about 120 applicants from across Dubrovnik‑Neretva County and beyond. Director Lući Koče highlighted the facility’s evolution during the COVID‑19 pandemic and the growing need for higher‑level health and social support for older residents with chronic illnesses and mobility challenges.

In Split, the city council approved a €168,000 contract to develop a design concept for converting the former Hotel Zagreb into a centre for elderly and disabled persons. The plan adds roughly 2,400 sqm of geriatric space to the existing 24,000 sqm building, aiming to increase the number of rooms from the current 340 to accommodate more severely impaired users. The project anticipates receiving a donation by mid‑November and expects building permits in the coming year.
