Croatia signs deal for South Korean K239 Chunmoo rocket systems

Croatia has signed a contract with South Korean company Hanwha Aerospace to procure 18 K239 Chunmoo self-propelled rocket launcher systems, including associated missiles and command-control equipment. The total value of the deal is approximately 435.2 million euros excluding VAT (roughly 544 million euros including VAT). The modular 8x8 wheeled system is designed to replace older equipment like the Vulkan M92 and GRAD BM-21, offering significantly increased range and firepower, with some missiles capable of reaching distances between 80 and 300 kilometers.

Defense Minister Ivan Anušić described the acquisition as a major modernization step that, alongside the Rafale fighter jets, will provide the Croatian military with a powerful strike force. Delivery of the systems is expected within 24 to 36 months. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Croatian and South Korean defense ministries to foster further cooperation in defense industries and joint projects.

In a separate development regarding military modernization, Minister Anušić is visiting the United States to strengthen ties with the Minnesota National Guard and inspect Black Hawk helicopters destined for Croatia. This visit highlights ongoing cooperation with U.S. allies as Croatia continues to increase its defense spending toward its goal of 3% of GDP by 2030.
