Croatia expands pension recalculation rules as retired doctor settles on Veli Iž

Retired pensioners in Croatia who resume employment or start a self‑employed activity can request a new pension calculation after completing at least one year of additional service, provided they meet age and contribution conditions. The request must be submitted to the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute; the process is not automatic and the new pension may be prorated based on part‑time work or mixed income sources.

Former Sarajevo doctor Luka Pirnat, now retired, moved to the Dalmatian island of Veli Iž early this year. He quickly became the island’s resident physician, offering continuous medical care to the small permanent population and earning praise from locals for restoring regular health services on the island.
