Croatia begins July payments of national elderly allowance
The Croatian Pension Insurance Institute (HZMO) announced that payments for the national allowance for elderly persons for July will begin on Monday, August 17. A total of 19,445 beneficiaries, of whom 80.21% are women, will receive 160.22 euros each. The state has allocated over 3.1 million euros for these payments.
To qualify, applicants must be Croatian citizens aged 65 or older with at least ten years of continuous residence in Croatia. Eligible individuals must not be pension recipients or members of the mandatory pension insurance system, and their monthly household income must not exceed 320.44 euros.
In addition to direct financial aid, various social initiatives are active across Croatia to support vulnerable populations. These include the ‘Silent Strength of Years’ project aimed at active aging for those over 55, and a day center in Bizovac operated by the Croatian Red Cross to reduce social isolation for those over 65. Furthermore, projects funded by the European Social Fund Plus are working to improve the quality of life and independence for persons with disabilities through expanded social services.
