Croatia earthquake reconstruction reaches 5.12 billion euro milestone

Branko Bačić, Croatia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Physical Planning, Construction, and State Assets, provided updates on the nation's post-earthquake reconstruction and housing programs. To date, 5.12 billion euros have been invested in the reconstruction of public and private property, with 3.06 billion euros allocated to the Zagreb earthquake area and 2.06 billion euros to the Petrinja area.

Reconstruction efforts have covered 15,276 locations and nearly 58,000 residential units. Currently, 1,692 construction sites are active, primarily focusing on family houses and multi-residential buildings. The ministry is shifting focus toward block-style reconstruction in areas like Zagreb's Lower Town and Sisak to improve efficiency. The renovation of public buildings is nearing completion and is expected to be fully finished by early 2027.

Additionally, the government announced high interest in programs for installing elevators and renovating building facades. A total of 596 applications were received for these programs. Bačić stated that the state aims to fund all applications that meet the required criteria, noting that funds may be paid out in the following budget year if necessary. For 2026, 2 million euros have been secured in the state budget specifically for elevator installations.
