Croatia family pension recipients face low monthly incomes
Data from the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute reveals that more than half of the 150,000 family pension recipients receive less than 511 euros per month. Family pensions, which typically amount to 77 percent of a deceased spouse's pension, vary widely, ranging from 104 to 1,785 euros.
The largest group of recipients, approximately 23,300 people, falls into the 470 to 540 euro bracket with an average of 511 euros. In total, 80,662 recipients—over half of all family pensioners—receive amounts below this threshold.
To address potential income gaps in retirement, financial experts suggest that individuals should begin long-term pension planning and voluntary savings well before age 65. For a person earning 1,800 euros, a projected pension of 900 euros creates a monthly deficit that may require supplementary investment portfolios or voluntary pension pillars to maintain current living standards.
