Balkan food prices and inflation trends show regional variations

Food and consumer goods prices show varying trends across the Balkan region. In Croatia, the national average for a basic food and hygiene basket for a four-person household reached €480.99 in July, a slight increase from June. Regional disparities are notable, with Zadar County recording the highest costs while Sisak-Moslavina remained the most affordable. Annual inflation in Croatia stood at 3.9 percent, driven largely by housing and energy costs, though clothing prices saw a significant seasonal decrease.

In Serbia, annual inflation dropped to 1.9 percent in July, aided by a strong agricultural season that lowered food prices. However, core inflation remains at 4.5 percent, indicating persistent underlying price pressures.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, pensioners report that rising costs for food and hygiene are outpacing official inflation statistics, leading to calls for additional financial support for those with the lowest incomes.
