Croatia sets record hourly electricity consumption in August
Croatia has recorded a historic peak in hourly electricity consumption, with demand reaching 3,400.5 megawatt-hours (MWh) in August. According to data from the Croatian transmission system operator, HOPS, this summer peak has now surpassed the country's traditional winter peaks.
This shift in consumption patterns is attributed to several factors, including increasingly hot summers, the widespread use of air conditioning, and the growing impact of the tourism season. While winter peaks were historically higher due to heating needs, milder winters and intense summer heatwaves have reversed this trend.
Overall electricity consumption in Croatia has been rising for three consecutive years. During the first seven months of the current year, consumption reached 10,632 million MWh, representing a 1.9 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
