Croatia awards 518 educators for World Teachers' Day

To mark World Teachers' Day, the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Youth awarded 518 outstanding educational workers across the country for the 2025/2026 school year. Recipients, including teachers, mentors, and school principals, received official recognition and a gross monetary award of 1,327 euros each.

During the ceremony held at the University of Zagreb, Minister Radovan Fuchs emphasized the critical role of educators and noted that the government is investing 3.2 billion euros in educational infrastructure, including the construction and renovation of schools, kindergartens, and sports halls. This represents the largest investment cycle in Croatian education to date.

Regional celebrations and local initiatives were also noted, such as a role-reversal event in Cres where high school graduates taught primary school students, and a ceremony in Vinkovci honoring retiring educators. Additionally, academic discussions in Rijeka highlighted recent PISA results, noting that Croatian students currently perform below the OECD average in reading, science, and mathematics.
