Croatia implements community programs to support elderly social inclusion
Various local initiatives in Croatia are targeting social isolation among senior citizens through community engagement and educational programs.
In Bizovac, the municipality has launched a free daycare program as part of the ‘Zajedno brinemo o najranjivije II’ project. Operating Monday through Friday, the program offers seniors social interaction, creative workshops, and access to computers and the internet. To support participants, the project provides free transportation for daily needs and offers psychosocial assistance through the PUKS Association to improve mental well-being and prevent loneliness.
In Karlovac, the ‘Splet generacija – Naše vrijeme’ program recently concluded a series of ‘Mozgalice 60+’ board game workshops with a Dobble tournament. Organized by the City of Karlovac, these activities aim to demonstrate that older citizens can learn new skills, compete, and form new social connections, helping them break daily routines and engage with their community.
