Croatia implements fuel price increases amid calls to lift retail controls

Fuel prices in Croatia have increased following new government regulations. As of Tuesday, gasoline prices rose by three cents to 1.66 euros per liter, while diesel increased by six cents to 1.86 euros per liter. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices also saw an uptick.

Despite these recent hikes, Eurostat data indicates that the annual increase in fuel prices in Croatia has been more moderate than the European Union average. Over the past year, diesel prices in Croatia rose by 14 percent, compared to a 20 percent average increase across the EU. Gasoline in Croatia rose by 8 percent, significantly lower than the EU average increase of 15 percent.

In response to rising energy costs, the Croatian Employers Association (HUP) has requested that the government lift existing price restrictions on certain goods. HUP Vice President Mirko Budimir stated that the market is functioning normally without anomalies and warned that rising energy costs could lead to further price increases in retail stores this autumn.
