Croatia initiates restoration of historical landmarks in Zagreb and Rijeka

Major restoration projects are underway for historical landmarks in Croatia. In Zagreb, the Croatian National Theatre is preparing for a comprehensive renovation of its main building, which originally opened in 1895. The project, valued at over one million euros for the conceptual design phase, includes structural work, construction pit protection, and the addition of new spaces adjacent to the historic building.

In Rijeka, restoration work has begun on the Brajda laundry site, a historical stone washing platform used by citizens until 1939. The project involves replacing damaged stones, reconstructing missing sections with natural or artificial materials, and cleaning old joints. The restoration of the laundry basin, including the dam and informational signage, is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
