Croatia intercepts human smuggling attempt and large drug shipment

Authorities in Croatia have intercepted two separate smuggling attempts involving human trafficking and narcotics.

In the Gorski Kotar region, police from the Delnice station arrested a 58-year-old Italian national suspected of human smuggling. Following the discovery of several foreign nationals in the area, officers intercepted a vehicle with Italian registration plates. The suspect is being investigated for illegal entry and movement within the Schengen Area.

Separately, at the Bajakovo border crossing, customs and police officers seized 83,600 tablets being transported in a truck from Serbia to Ireland. The shipment, which was declared as medicine, contained 44,600 tablets listed as narcotics (Bensedin) and 39,000 other undeclared tablets. Officers also discovered 30 liters of undeclared brandy. A Serbian driver was fined 17,910 euros for failing to declare goods and tampering with customs seals.
