Croatia launches €38 million household renewable energy grant programme
The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund in Croatia announced a public call worth €38 million to subsidise household adoption of renewable energy technologies. Eligible projects include heat‑pump installations, photovoltaic (PV) systems for self‑consumption and, for the first time, battery storage units. Grants cover up to 50 % of eligible costs, rising to 70 % for households classified as energy‑poor.
Applicants can receive between €6,000 and €17,850, or €8,400 to €24,990 for energy‑poor households, with maximum project caps of €12,500 for heat pumps, €12,000 for PV systems and €11,200 for batteries. PV subsidies are limited to €600 per kW installed, or €840 per kW for energy‑poor households. Applications open on 2 September 2026 at 09:00 through the eFZOEU electronic portal. Funding is sourced from proceeds of Croatia’s emission‑unit auctions for 2026‑2030, as proposed by the Ministry of Environment and Green Transition.
In parallel, Croatia’s first energy community has begun sharing locally generated solar power, marking a further step toward residential energy independence.
