Croatia launches green infrastructure and renewable energy subsidy programs

Croatia is implementing several environmental and energy initiatives. In the Zadar County, the ‘Zeleni val’ (Green Wave) project is entering its second year. The program has allocated 200,000 euros to cities and municipalities to support green infrastructure, including tree and shrub planting, the creation of urban forests, and the installation of rainwater collection systems to increase climate change resilience.

On a national level, the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency has announced a 38 million euro subsidy program for citizens. Starting September 2, homeowners can apply for grants to install heat pumps, solar power plants, and battery storage systems. The program covers up to 50 percent of costs, with increased support of up to 70 percent for households at risk of energy poverty. The fund estimates these funds could facilitate the installation of approximately 6,500 systems.
