Dubrovnik opens new senior care centre, first major elderly home in the city

A new Centre for the elderly was inaugurated in Dubrovnik on 26 June 2026. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Deputy Prime Minister Branko Bačić, ministers Alen Ružić and Nina Obuljen Koržinek, Mayor Mato Franković and Bishop Roko Glasnović.

The facility, the first large senior home built in Dubrovnik since 1971, provides 205 residential places, including 125 beds for fully dependent users, a day‑care unit for 75 people and out‑of‑institutional services for 410 community‑based seniors. Total construction cost was €22.886 million (including VAT), of which €6.138 million came from the EU Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. The centre is part of the government’s plan to build 18 similar homes nationwide, adding 1 850 new beds to serve over 4 500 seniors.

Prime Minister Plenković highlighted the project as evidence of the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Croatia’s ageing population, noting that the Dubrovnik centre is the fourth such centre opened in the last month. Future projects include two additional homes in the Dubrovnik region and upgrades to existing facilities in Vela Luka and Korčula.
