Croatia marks World Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day

Croatia is observing World Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) Awareness Day on September 7. The Federation of Dystrophy Societies of Croatia (SDDH) is organizing activities to raise awareness about this rare, progressive genetic disease that causes muscle degeneration, typically affecting boys in early childhood.

This year’s theme, ‘Access Changes Lives,’ emphasizes the necessity of timely diagnosis, quality healthcare, education, employment, and assistive technology. To symbolize solidarity, cities across Croatia will participate in a global initiative to illuminate landmarks and monuments with red light.

In Pula, a gathering of children and parents was held to highlight the daily challenges faced by those living with DMD. Discussions focused on the difficulties in healthcare and social care, as well as the importance of new therapies that can slow disease progression and improve life expectancy.
