Croatia media faces crisis as over 50% of citizens avoid news

A study by the Media Agency reveals that approximately 52 percent of Croatian citizens intentionally avoid the news. When including those who do not follow news due to lack of interest, the figure rises to 56.1 percent.

Experts suggest the Croatian media system is facing its greatest crisis to date, characterized by a collapse in public trust regarding news quality, reliability, and accuracy. Traditional outlets, including television, radio, print, and internet portals, are struggling with failing business models and a limited capacity for structural or content-based changes.

Researchers note that media organizations have been passive in responding to the rise of social media as a dominant information channel. While television and portals remain primary sources for the general population, social media and digital platforms have become the main information sources for Generation Z.
