Croatia Ministry of Defence proposes new military training rules
The Croatian Ministry of Defence has introduced proposed amendments to three regulations concerning basic military training and military service. Key changes include increasing salary supplements for active military personnel directly involved in conducting recruit training, raising the daily supplement from 4% to 6% of the base salary.
The amendments also establish procedures for the urgent assessment of a recruit's health status if their condition changes during the intensive 60-day training period. Such assessments will be conducted by the Institute of Maritime Medicine in Split and the Institute of Aviation Medicine in Zagreb to determine continued fitness for duty.
Additionally, the new rules aim to clarify the jurisdiction for resolving the rights and obligations of military conscripts who do not have a permanent residence in Croatia. Ivan Jušić, Director of the Human Resources Administration, noted that approximately 100 recruits have previously failed to complete training due to health changes, a figure he described as not concerning given the physical and mental demands of the program.
