Croatia Ministry of Justice declines comment on same-sex adoption rulings

The Croatian Ministry of Justice, Administration, and Digital Transformation has declined to comment on recent court rulings in Rijeka regarding child adoption by same-sex partners. The Ministry stated that it is not authorized to provide opinions on ongoing judicial proceedings or specific verdicts, as doing so would violate the constitutional guarantee of the independence and autonomy of the judiciary.

In addition to refusing to comment on specific cases, the Ministry noted that questions regarding the interpretation and application of the Family Law are not within its jurisdiction. This refusal comes amid legal discussions concerning how the existing legal framework governs family relations and the potential for same-sex partners to adopt children.
