Croatia named Europe's highest quality camping destination
Croatia has been recognized as the highest quality camping destination in Europe according to recent research by PiNCAMP, a platform within the German club ADAC. This finding was highlighted during the 20th Croatian Camping Congress in Tuhelje.
Veljko Ostojić, Director of the Croatian Tourism Association (HUT), noted that the results validate years of investment in the sector. Between January 1 and October 11, 2026, Croatian campsites recorded nearly 3.4 million arrivals and 21.4 million overnight stays, maintaining levels similar to previous record-breaking periods. Germany, Slovenia, and Austria remain the primary markets, accounting for over 60 percent of total overnight stays, while domestic guests saw a 9.7 percent increase in overnight stays compared to the previous year.
Ostojić emphasized that future growth depends on a stable legislative framework regarding spatial planning, maritime domain, and tourism. He called for clear regulations to facilitate further investments, particularly in four- and five-star campsites, which currently see the highest occupancy rates. He also noted the importance of the Ministry of Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure in defining maritime domain boundaries to enable land leasing and development.
