Sarajevo Film Festival honors Woody Harrelson and Emir Hadžihafizbegović

The 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival, running from 14 to 21 August 2026, will present the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo to two distinguished actors. American star Woody Harrelson, a three‑time Oscar nominee known for roles in The People vs. Larry Flynt, The Messenger and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, was praised by festival director Jovan Marjanović as “one of those actors you believe in even in the most improbable roles, while at the same time you can easily imagine him as someone you might spend time with every day.” Bosnian‑Herzegovinian veteran Emir Hadžihafizbegović, with more than 70 film roles and a career spanning decades, was commended for a body of work that “becomes part of the cultural memory” of the region. The ceremony will be accompanied by screenings of Michael Winterbottom’s 1997 war‑drama Welcome to Sarajevo and a newly restored version of Danis Tanović’s Oscar‑winning No Man’s Land. Harrelson’s upcoming projects include the Apple TV+ series Brothers and the film Full Phil, while the festival’s director highlighted the award’s significance for both international and regional cinema.
