European nations implement various pension and social welfare reforms

Various European nations are addressing pension and social welfare adjustments. In Montenegro, the European Alliance has proposed three models to adjust pensions based on the rising costs of food, medicine, and utilities to better protect elderly citizens.

In Germany, Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil introduced a draft law for a ‘early start pension’ (Frühstartrente). The plan involves state contributions for children to build retirement capital, a move that has sparked debate in the Bundestag regarding its long-term costs and inclusivity.

In Serbia, upcoming changes include significant public sector salary increases and pension hikes scheduled for late 2026. Additionally, unemployment benefits are set to reach up to 51,394 dinars, provided claimants adhere to strict 30-day registration deadlines. The PIO Fund also continues to offer benefits such as free spa rehabilitation and various discounts via pension cards.

In Croatia, citizens have options to increase future pension amounts by delaying retirement, with a monthly bonus of 0.45 percent for each month worked beyond the eligibility age.
