Croatia passes amendments to the Crafts Act

The Croatian Parliament has passed amendments to the Crafts Act, introducing several changes aimed at supporting the country's more than 140,000 craftsmen. Key provisions include the formal introduction of the family craft institute, which allows household members to assist without establishing a formal employment relationship.

The legislation also facilitates the continuation of business operations following the death of a craftsman, provided heirs meet specific qualification requirements and deadlines. Additionally, craftsmen will be permitted to continue their registered activities after reaching retirement age without suspending their pension payments.

Financial relief is provided through a reduction in the chamber contribution, which will decrease from 2% to 1.5% of the basic personal deduction. The amendments also expand the scope of apprenticeships, allowing them to take place within companies, institutions, cooperatives, or associations. Following an amendment by the HDZ Club, the new law is set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
