Croatia proposes pension increases for police and military

The Croatian government has proposed legislative changes to increase pensions and ease retirement conditions for specific categories of workers, including police officers, military personnel, and other official officials. The plan, currently in public consultation, aims to abolish existing pension reductions and modify service requirements for retirement.

Minister of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy Alen Ružić stated that the changes will affect approximately 34,000 beneficiaries. The government expects to allocate an additional 100 million euros from the state budget over the next three years to implement these measures, with 88.5 million euros specifically earmarked for 2027.

The Ministry noted that the proposal is intended to recognize the social importance of these roles and enhance social security in old age. Additionally, the government anticipates that these adjustments will help strengthen human resources within the military, police, security-intelligence, and judicial systems.
