Croatia reports 1,203 cyber incidents in first nine months

Croatia recorded 1,203 cyber incidents during the first nine months of the year, according to data from the National CERT, which operates within the Croatian Academic and Research Network (CARNET). The number of incidents remains nearly equal to the same period last year.

Phishing attacks were the most prevalent, accounting for 36 percent (439 cases) of the total. Other significant threats included unsolicited messages (24 percent) and various other financially motivated frauds (19 percent). Additionally, authorities noted 37 business frauds, five data thefts, and three ransomware attacks.

Attackers are utilizing increasingly sophisticated methods, such as impersonating state institutions, the e-Građani system, and well-known companies or internet platforms. Other noted tactics include hijacking user and administrator accounts, exploiting critical security vulnerabilities, and conducting scams via WhatsApp or through fraudulent tourist reservation communications.
