Croatia reports 27,146 registered cases of cerebral palsy

In observance of World Cerebral Palsy Day on October 6, health authorities in Croatia have released data regarding the prevalence of the condition. According to the Croatian Institute of Public Health, 27,146 individuals with cerebral palsy and paralytic syndromes are registered in the national disability register, representing approximately 4.02 percent of all persons with disabilities in the country.

Cerebral palsy is noted as the most common permanent physical disability in childhood. Health experts emphasize that the condition often involves associated challenges; for instance, one in four children with cerebral palsy does not speak, one in three cannot walk, and half face intellectual difficulties. Early intervention is highlighted as a critical factor for improving developmental outcomes.

Local municipalities, including the city of Knin, are participating in global awareness efforts to promote inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunities. The campaign, themed ‘United and Uniting,’ aims to combat discrimination and the social stigma faced by individuals with cerebral palsy and their families.
