Croatia reports 63 suspected vaccine adverse reactions in 2024

The Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ) recorded 63 suspected adverse reactions to vaccinations in 2024, a drop of about one‑quarter from the 83 cases reported in 2023. Most reports involved expected, short‑term symptoms such as injection‑site redness or swelling, fever, rash and dizziness.

Of the 63 reports, 27 related to vaccines administered under the mandatory immunisation programme (measles‑mumps‑rubella, polio, diphtheria‑tetanus‑pertussis, etc.) and 36 to non‑mandatory vaccines, with the highest number linked to the nine‑valent human papillomavirus vaccine Gardasil 9 (15 cases) and six co‑administered with DTaP. One report described a possible epileptic seizure shortly after vaccination. The data set does not include COVID‑19 vaccine reactions, which are analysed separately. HZJZ cautions that a reported health issue after vaccination does not prove causation; the register primarily monitors unexpected patterns and clusters that may merit further investigation.
