Bihać Hospital faces account freeze over 2 million KM debt

The Dr. Irfan Ljubijankić Cantonal Hospital in Bihać is facing a potential freeze of its bank accounts due to an outstanding debt of two million KM stemming from a 2008 loan. The deadline for payment is October 31, and a definitive solution has not yet been reached.

The Government of Una-Sana Canton (USK) stated there is no legal basis for the canton to assume the hospital's debt, suggesting the administration must implement cost-cutting measures to stabilize finances. While a budget rebalance is being considered, it remains uncertain if funds will be secured in time.

Medical unions warn that an account freeze could halt essential operations, including the procurement of medicines and medical supplies, payment of utility bills, and staff salaries. Amir Durić, president of the Union of Doctors and Dentists at the facility, cautioned that such a scenario could force the hospital to close, further impacting a region already struggling with medical staff shortages.
