Croatia safety concerns rise following electric scooter accidents and illegal vehicle seizure

Authorities in Croatia are raising alarms regarding the safety of electric scooters following recent incidents involving minors. In Slavonski Brod, police confiscated an electric scooter from a minor after discovering it was an illegal vehicle. The device possessed a continuous power of 2800 W, nearly five times the legal limit of 600 W, and was capable of reaching speeds of 99 km/h, far exceeding the 25 km/h limit for personal transport devices.

In Zagreb, a child was seriously injured in a traffic accident while riding an electric scooter on a designated bicycle path. The child, who was not wearing a helmet, collided with a car at an intersection. The victim was transported to the Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb for treatment.

Medical professionals at the Clinic for Children's Diseases in Zagreb have issued warnings about the frequency of such accidents. Surgeons report that emergency rooms regularly receive children with injuries ranging from abrasions and bone fractures to severe neurotrauma, brain hemorrhages, and epidural hematomas resulting from scooter falls.
