Croatia sees continued net migration gain despite declining inflows

In 2025, Croatia recorded 56,665 people moving in from abroad and 37,485 leaving, resulting in a net migration gain of 19,180 persons—down from a 31,000 gain in 2024. Foreign nationals accounted for about 70 % of the arrivals, with the largest source countries being Germany (17 % of newcomers), Bosnia and Herzegovina (11.1 %) and Nepal (11.1 %). Men represented 66.3 % of the inbound migrants. Internal relocation also rose, with 73,838 people changing residence within the country, the highest number since 2016; Zagreb County received the largest share of internal migrants. Meanwhile, natural population change remains negative, with 32,479 births versus 50,007 deaths in 2025, continuing a demographic decline despite the migration surplus.
