Croatia sees surge in gold investments as inflation drives savers beyond banks
A recent Auro Domus survey shows 53 % of Croatians are actively investing, with gold climbing to the third‑most‑popular asset after real estate and savings accounts. Rising inflation is eroding the value of cash, prompting many to seek alternative stores of value.
Gold is viewed as a low‑cost, liquid option, available for as little as €150 per ounce, and has delivered a cumulative 600 % gain over the past twenty years – roughly an 11 % annual return, outpacing traditional bank deposits. Auro Domus highlights its nationwide network of over fifty branches, an online shop, and free advisory and vault‑storage services to facilitate these investments.
The study notes a range of investors, from those allocating millions of euros in large gold bars to individuals buying small quantities on a monthly basis, emphasizing the product’s accessibility and liquidity compared with real‑estate holdings.
