Croatia signs major defense deals for rocket systems and jet communications

Croatia has entered into significant defense agreements to modernize its military capabilities. The Ministry of Defense signed a contract with South Korean company Hanwha Aerospace for the procurement of 18 Chunmoo K239 self-propelled multiple rocket launchers. The deal, valued between 435.2 million and 544 million euros, aims to provide high firepower and rapid reaction capabilities, with deliveries expected to begin in 2028 and conclude by 2030. The project includes cooperation with the Croatian company Končar for system maintenance.

In a separate but related modernization effort, Croatia signed a 33.2 million euro contract with Thales Group and the local company Odašiljači i veze (OiV) to upgrade the combat communication system of the Croatian Air Force. This Ground-to-Air Networks (GAN) project, running from 2026 to 2030, will enhance secure data transmission and communications for the Rafale fighter jets, elevating them to the F4 standard. This upgrade is intended to ensure interoperability with NATO allies and establish a national network of seven ground radio locations.
