Croatia strengthens defense to restore regional balance
At the ‘EU 4 Defence Readiness’ conference in Zadar, Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Ivan Anušić stated that Croatia is strengthening its military capabilities to restore regional balance. Anušić specifically cited the intensive decade-long armament of Serbia, including reports of offensive systems, as a primary driver for Croatia's defense posture.
To counter regional threats, Croatia has acquired the Chunmoo K239 long-range missile system through contracts with South Korean firm Hanwha Aerospace. Anušić noted that the Croatian Ministry of Defence has signed over 200 million euros in contracts with domestic firms over the last year, noting that 208 Croatian companies have been identified as having defense production capabilities.
Kosovo's Minister of Defence, Ejup Maqedonci, also participated in the conference, emphasizing the need for regional cooperation. Discussions focused on deepening trilateral defense ties between Kosovo, Albania, and Croatia to address hybrid threats and promote industrial cooperation in the Balkans.
