Croatia Summer Theatre Launches New Shows in Zagreb and Suhopolje

The 41st Zagreb Summer Festival opened on 7 July with the comedy "Francekova teta" by Nine Škraba and Ivan‑Goran Vitez. Staged at Opatovina until 5 September (except Sundays and Mondays), the play satirically revisits Zagreb in 1990, the day of a never‑played football match between Dinamo and Red Star, and explores contemporary social themes through the story of young footballer Ivan Sučić. The production features Jurica Marčec, Tea Šimić, Ivan Grčić and a cameo by Matej Novak playing an American senator’s aunt.

A few days later, on 11 July, Suhopolje’s Croatian House welcomed Kerekeš Theatre’s comedy "Penzići luduju" at 20:00. The free‑entry play, written and directed by Ljubomir Kerekeš, follows a group of retirees who enter a dance competition, delivering humor about ageing and vitality. The cast includes Ljubomir Kerekeš, Darko Janeš and Goran Koši.

Both productions highlight a lively summer theatre season across Croatia, offering locally relevant satire and light‑hearted entertainment.
