Croatia to acquire 18 South Korean K239 Chunmoo rocket launchers

Croatia is set to approve the acquisition of 18 K239 Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher systems from South Korea. The deal, valued at approximately €435.2 million excluding taxes, represents one of the country's largest arms purchases since the 1990s.

The advanced modular systems will replace aging Soviet-era BM-21 Grad and Vulkan M92 launchers, which have a limited range of roughly 20 kilometers. In contrast, the Chunmoo systems offer significantly greater strike capabilities, with ammunition ranges spanning from 30 kilometers to over 300 kilometers, including ballistic rockets for long-range deterrence.

Following government approval, Croatian Defense Minister Ivan Anušić is expected to sign the contract with Hanwha Aerospace. Additionally, Croatia plans to partner with Poland's WB Group to integrate Topaz command and control systems into the launchers. Approximately 85 percent of the equipment is scheduled for delivery by 2028, with financial obligations spanning from 2026 to 2029.
