Croatia to Ban Night‑time Alcohol Sales in Tourist Cities

The Croatian parliament approved a law amendment that allows municipalities to prohibit the sale of alcohol between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. The restriction targets supermarkets, kiosks and petrol stations, not bars or restaurants. Split, Zadar and the island of Hvar have announced they will implement the ban, while Zagreb is evaluating the measure. The change aims to curb drunken behaviour by tourists that has become a political issue in popular summer destinations.

Violations such as public urination already carry fines of €300 in Split, and the new night‑time ban is intended to further reduce disorderly conduct among visitors.
