Croatia to expand traffic surveillance with high-tech radar

Croatia's Ministry of the Interior has launched a tender to expand its traffic surveillance network through the procurement of 40 high-tech radar devices and 120 camera housings. The estimated value of the project is 2.725 million euros, excluding VAT.

The new system is designed to be highly versatile. Each radar unit will be capable of monitoring speeds across at least three lanes simultaneously. Beyond simple speeding violations, the technology is intended to detect other infractions, such as driving in the wrong direction or illegal overtaking across solid white lines.

A key feature of the deployment strategy is the use of 120 different locations for only 40 active radar units. Technicians will regularly move the devices between the 120 prepared housings, making it difficult for drivers to determine which locations contain active equipment. The specific locations will be determined gradually by the Ministry and are currently classified as restricted information. The project involves a two-year framework agreement, with installation expected to follow the selection of a supplier.
