Croatia to implement Crolibertas electronic toll system in March

Croatia is preparing to implement a new electronic toll collection system called Crolibertas, scheduled to go into operation on March 1. The system will cover the entire Croatian motorway network, including concession motorways managed by Bina-Istra and Autocesta Zagreb–Macelj.

Under the new system, traditional toll booths will be removed. Drivers can use the existing ENC device, which must be linked to a license plate, or a new method for occasional users. For the latter, cameras will automatically read license plates, but drivers must register their vehicle and a valid payment method, such as a bank card, via a web portal, mobile app, or at designated registration lanes located at current toll stations.

Despite media speculation regarding potential delays following the annulment of a contractor selection decision by the State Commission for the Control of Public Procurement Procedures, Croatian Motorways (HAC) maintains that all activities are proceeding according to the legal deadlines. HAC described the transition as a complex, multidisciplinary project involving technological, legal, and operational integration.
