Croatia to introduce electronic tolling system in March 2027

Croatia is scheduled to implement a new electronic toll collection system (ESNC), known as Crolibertas, on March 1, 2027. This system will replace traditional toll booths with a free-flow model, allowing vehicles to pass through toll zones at speeds up to 130 km/h using a combination of Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) and existing DSRC technology via ENC devices.

The transition aims to reduce traffic congestion, shorten travel times, and lower vehicle emissions. Unlike some neighboring countries, Croatia will not introduce vignettes; instead, tolls will continue to be calculated based on the distance traveled and vehicle category. New regulations also mandate that license plates must remain legible to avoid fines ranging from 300 to 600 euros.

For drivers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the transition will be seamless. Users who have already linked their ACC TAG devices from Autoceste Federacije BiH with the Croatian motorway system (HAC) will be able to continue using them without additional registration. While the ACC account balance used in Bosnia and Herzegovina remains separate from Croatian tolling, the interoperability of the devices will be maintained without interruption.
