The Croatian government has approved a major military modernization package, headlined by the procurement of 18 K239 Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers from South Korea. The acquisition, valued between 435.2 million and 544.1 million euros, is intended to replace the aging SVLR Vulkan and GRAD BM-21 systems. Hanwha Aerospace will supply the launchers and ammunition, while Poland’s WB Electronics will provide the command and control system. The Chunmoo system offers a range of 30 to over 300 kilometers and features the flexibility to carry different types of rockets on a single launcher.

Deliveries are expected to take place between 2026 and 2029. Prime Minister Andrej Plenković stated that this is one of the most significant investments in the Croatian military since the end of the Homeland War, aimed at enhancing deterrence and national security in the current European context.

In addition to the rocket launchers, the government approved several other defense upgrades. These include enhancing the capabilities of Rafale fighter jets from the F3-R to the F4 standard, upgrading the Croatian Air Force's combat communication systems, modernizing the AN/FPS-117 radar system, procuring new anti-tank weaponry, and constructing a new maintenance hangar at the Zemunik Air Base.
