Croatia Signs €125 million Beretta Ammunition Plant Deal
The Croatian government signed a memorandum of understanding with Italy’s Beretta Holding Group and investor Ivan Kapetanović to build a small‑calibre ammunition factory in Obrovac, Zadar County. The agreement was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ivan Anušić, Beretta CEO Pietro Gussalli and Kapetanović in the Ban Jelačić Palace.
The joint venture is valued at about €125 million. Beretta will hold 50 % plus one share, while the remaining stake will be split between the Croatian state and the private investor. Construction is slated to start in 2029 with operations beginning by mid‑2029, creating roughly 250 jobs and generating annual revenue of €70‑80 million.
The project is presented as a strategic boost to Croatia’s defence capabilities, industrial output and exports, and is linked to broader government reforms aimed at meeting OECD membership criteria. In the same cabinet session, €27 million was re‑allocated for Ukrainian displaced‑person support and €39 million approved for an AI‑Factories programme.
