Croatia tourism concerns rise over Kaprije safety and Makarska overcrowding

Residents and tourists on the Croatian island of Kaprije have issued a public appeal to authorities regarding safety concerns during the peak summer season. Locals report that the island's pedestrian promenade has become a dangerous thoroughfare for speeding electric vehicles, scooters, and trikes. Additionally, there are reports of maritime-related risks, with motorboats, yachts, and jet skis reportedly traveling at high speeds very close to the shoreline, endangering swimmers and divers.

In a separate instance of tourism-related tension, footage from Makarska has sparked debate over overcrowding. Video shared on social media shows the main city beach almost entirely covered by towels and sunbeds by late morning. While regular visitors note that such density is common on the Makarska Riviera during peak periods, the images have fueled discussions regarding the impact of mass tourism on the quality of the holiday experience.
