Croatia bans night‑time alcohol sales in tourist centres

The Croatian government has introduced a strict night‑time ban on the sale of alcoholic drinks in the streets of tourist hotspots. Shops in Split and other historic coastal towns must stop selling alcohol between 20:00 and 06:00, with violations punishable by fines of up to €4,000. The measure, backed by Economy Minister Ante Šušnjar, aims to curb noise, protect residents and reduce high levels of alcohol consumption that have long plagued popular seaside districts. Similar restrictions already apply in Dubrovnik and on the island of Hvar, and the law gives municipalities the power to enforce the rules and curb public drinking in historic centres.
