Croatia tourism faces price backlash while German and Italian visitors boost summer arrivals

A foreign visitor on Reddit warned that soaring food, drink and accommodation costs in Croatia—often above €17 for a cocktail—have discouraged repeat trips, citing the country's high inflation and perceived over‑pricing.

Despite these complaints, Croatia’s tourism authority reported more than four million arrivals and 12.4 million overnight stays so far this year, a 5 % rise in arrivals and 6 % increase in nights compared with the same period last year. German, Italian and Polish tourists are especially active around the Corpus Christi holiday, with new airline, rail and ferry services expected to further support demand. The sector continues to grapple with inflation, geopolitical tensions and an altered holiday calendar.

The contrasting narratives highlight both the economic importance of tourism for Croatia and the sensitivity of visitors to price levels as the season progresses.
