Croatia tourism faces rising costs and changing visitor trends

Croatia's tourism sector is facing a shift characterized by rising costs and changing visitor patterns. While the Adriatic coast continues to offer ideal weather and clear waters, high prices in popular destinations like Zadar, Šibenik, and Split are impacting the tourist experience.

In some coastal areas, significant price increases have been noted for basic goods and dining. For example, prices for simple items like ice cream or drinks have risen, and traditional dishes such as grilled calamari have seen price hikes compared to previous years. These rising costs, alongside the transition to the euro, are contributing to a trend where beaches and old towns appear less crowded than in previous peak seasons.

In contrast to these economic challenges, certain historical locations like Opatija maintain their charm. Once a small fishing village, Opatija evolved into a fashionable Central European resort following the construction of Villa Angiolina and the establishment of a railway connection to Vienna. The town remains noted for its Mediterranean vegetation and late 19th-century architecture.
