Croatia tourism faces rising food prices and counterfeit goods

Visitors to Croatia are reporting significant increases in dining costs, with some tourists noting that dinner for two at well-rated seaside restaurants can now reach approximately 110 euros. This represents a notable rise from 2023, when similar meals cost between 70 and 80 euros.

In addition to rising prices, travelers are cautioned regarding the authenticity of local gastronomic products. There is a risk of purchasing counterfeit goods at roadside stalls, such as imported cheeses sold as authentic Paški sir (Pag cheese) or low-quality oils sold as premium olive oil. To ensure quality, consumers are advised to look for the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) logo on cheese packaging, which guarantees the product is made from sheep's milk on Pag Island according to strict EU regulations.
