Croatia tourism: Public beach rights and karst landscapes

Croatia's coastline and interior offer diverse experiences ranging from public beach access to unique geological formations. Under Croatian law, the sea and coast are considered public property. Despite potential signs claiming beaches are private, most are available for everyone to use freely, with only about 15 exceptions. While businesses may charge for services like sunbed rentals, access to the shore remains a public right.

Beyond the Adriatic coast, the Croatian interior features significant karst landscapes. Near Imotski, the Blue Lake and Red Lake are prominent geological features formed by the collapse of underground caves. The Blue Lake changes depth seasonally and has hosted local football traditions, while the Red Lake is one of the world's deepest karst lakes, characterized by steep cliffs and reddish hues caused by iron oxides.
