Croatia tourist costs surge sparks complaints over taxi fares and camping prices

A Croatian taxi driver reportedly overcharged a young passenger traveling from Rijeka to Zadar for a short ride to Zadar Airport, demanding €90 instead of the usual €25‑30 range. The rider’s mother warned other travelers about the incident and suggested using international ride‑hailing apps or renting cars.

At the same time, Croatia has become one of Europe’s most expensive camping destinations. Campsites in Istria and Dalmatia now charge up to €120 per day for caravans and tents, adding to higher prices for food, drinks and parking. Families and budget tourists are increasingly turning to cheaper alternatives such as Italy, Spain, Greece or Turkey, raising concerns for the Croatian camping sector’s competitiveness.
