Croatia vehicle registration rules for international travel
Regulations regarding the use of the HR identification sticker on vehicles in international traffic depend on the type of license plates a driver possesses. According to the Ordinance on the Registration and Marking of Vehicles, drivers with newer European Union license plates—which include the blue EU logo and the national HR designation—are not required to display an additional sticker when traveling within the European Union.
However, the sticker remains mandatory for travel to non-EU countries, such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and North Macedonia. Additionally, drivers who do not have the newer EU-style license plates must display the sticker regardless of whether they are traveling within or outside the European Union.
The sticker must strictly adhere to legal specifications: it must be white, elliptical, measuring 175 mm by 115 mm, with black HR lettering 80 mm in height and 10 mm in width. Non-compliant stickers, including those with different designs or dimensions, are not legally valid.
